How to Build Back-Yard Horseshoe Pits

We used anti-weed mesh  on top of the bare ground to try and keep grass and weeds from growing up through the sand and brick work.  The idea was to build horseshoe pits that would last for years. with little maintenance.

Above is a shot the anti weed mesh covering the ground.

The next step was to lay down the 4 x 6 lumber that would be used to form the rectangle that will hold all the sand in the pit, so I measured and used a chain saw to cut the beams.  The inside dimensions of my pits are 6 feet long and 3 feet wide.
